Local Laughs at the Boston Comedy Festival Brighten Any Day

They say laughter is the best medicine and I’m inclined to agree.

I had a slight case of the Mondays this week when I got my first-ever bike flat, but my day infinitely improved when I got a magical email telling me I had won four free tickets to the Boston Comedy Festival that night at Davis Square Theatre (not to be confused with Somerville Theatre as I learned last night.)

Who doesn’t love comedy? Or free things? AND it was in my neighborhood, so clearly, It was a no brainer for me to go.

It was awesome. Great comedians and lots of laughs. But I was misinformed going into it. I thought it was going to be all local acts, and while I did recognize a few faces from comedy night at The Burren, it appears that Boston Comedy Fest has a broader reach than I realized. A lot of the performers came from out of town to compete – one admitted he had driven five hours to get there – and apparently there is a $10,000 prize at stake.

They also bring back past Boston Comedy Fest winners and other big-name comedians to headline the shows. For any ’30 Rock’ fans out there, Judah Friedlander is one of the main acts this weekend. I highly recommend checking out the rest of the week’s line-up and grabbing some tickets if you can!
