(Pumpkin) Beer me!
Maybe it’s that the cool weather has finally arrived in Boston, or that I know it’s such a limited-time-only thing, but I’ve really been craving pumpkin beer. Craving it. Sometimes with the cinnamon-sugar rim, but not always – Shipyard Pumpkinhead out of a bottle is one of my favorites. And craving it even at inappropriate times like in the morning at work when another pumpkin favorite, the pumpkin spiced latte, is the right life choice.
The pumpkin craze hits big in early fall. People can’t get enough of pumpkin breads, muffins, coffees, pumpkin ravioli, sauces, the list goes on.
Starbucks recently reported a shortage of their pumpkin syrup – a potential “pumpkin emergency” – that left some without their pumpkin lattes for a few days (Oh, the horror).
Pumpkin aside, autumn is also a great opportunity for beer festivals – Oktoberfest, need we say more – and the onslaught of fall-themed beers. If you couldn’t make it to Munich, locally between Harpoon’s Octoberfest, where this photo was taken, Sam Adams’ Stein Hoists, and a flurry of beer-themed 5Ks (to make you feel less guilty about indulging), there’s been no shortage of New Englanders raising a pint to fall.
