Fall hit fast, but still plenty to do. Here’s what our authors have on tap:
Matt C.: Tonight I’ve finally convinced some Cambridge friends to cross the Charles — for the first time in months! — to grab dinner and drinks atthe Publick House. Then Saturday is Northeastern’ Homecoming game against BC, so just like I did in my undergraduate years, I’ll head to Matthews Arena and oh-so-briefly care about hockey. Sunday is mostly free, so I’m hoping to catch our local boy Ben Affleck’s new flick, Argo, at the Coolidge.
Dibble: GO HUSKIES!! It’s homecoming weekend for Northeastern and I’m pretty pumped. Before heading to Matthews Arena on Saturday night to watch my Huskies take on the Eagles, I’ll probably pay a visit to campus favorite Conor Larkins as well as Fan Fest to revel with fellow alums. On Sunday, I’m running the Oktoberfest 5K in Cambridge, followed by an Oktoberfest celebration at Cambridge Brewing Company. I’ll probably stop by CBC tonight to pick up my bib and grab a beer before heading to Kendall Square Cinema for a Friday night flick.
Casey: On Saturday, I’m kind of splitting my loyalties, doing a bit of the BC-Northeastern juggle. Frost overnight means it’s going to be avery cold Red Bandanna Run at BC tomorrow morning! And I’m tacking on a few extra miles to get ready for some upcoming half marathons. But that just means I can feast more while watching BC football get clobbered by Florida State. Then I’m headed to Northeastern to celebrate homecoming, and watch the BC-Northeastern hockey game – yay hockey season again! No predictions here (don’t you love that diplomacy?) I’m just excited to see some good hockey and hang with Eagle and Husky alumni! Something makes me think that Sunday will be spent recovering from Saturday’s sports and activity induced festivities, but I’ve actually got another potential 5K to run, a ton of errands, homework, and and life things to take care of – OY.
Dave: I’m doing a Friday tradition at the ol’ Allston Depot for pizza with the family, taking an easy night because I’m starting Saturday nice and early with the Red Bandanna Run – a 5K in honor Wells Crowther, who was killed on 9/11. If you don’t know that story, grab some tissue and spend some time watching this. Depending on how the weather looks and how I feel after, it’ll either be morning drinks after the race at Roggie’s or a trip down to the Cape to help pick some grapes at the Cape Cod Winery. On Sunday, I’m checking out the Metropolitan Chorale of Brookline and joining in its Carmina Burana Oktoberfest singalong at Coolidge Corner Clubhouse. I swear that isn’t as lame as it sounds.
Maloney: To celebrate my return to Boston from visiting family out of town, I’ll be inhaling a burrito from Anna’s on Friday night. If I can convince myself to get out of bed early enough on Saturday, I’ll be at Porter Square’s City Sports Free Yoga Series. On Saturday afternoon I’ll be at the First Annual Food Truck Grudge Match. (Let’s go Bon Me!) Since the Bears have a bye week I’ll probably be suckered into watching the Pats game at a friend’s house. I’ll probably finish up the weekend with a white bean pizza from Stone Hearth Pizza. Why does my whole weekend focus around food?
Drea: Well, I’m on my own this weekend. Friday, I’ll spend with the family out in Harvard, MA. Saturday will see big, exciting adventures of checking items off a to-do list. If I get all that accomplished, I’ll likely head to the Food Truck Show Down (with Maloney), pitting Boston’s best against New York’s. On Sunday, I’ll likely indulge in a Salted Caramel Mocha, now that they are back at Starbucks as I walk along the Esplanade. I may venture over to the Siena Farm Farmstore in the South End so I can make myself a big pot of soup for the week. Obviously, I need plans so do invite me to yours. 🙂
Alex: Friday I will most likey be enjoying a delicious Shipyard Pumpkinhead beer with a brown sugar rim at BBG with the roomies. Saturday I will be spending my time eating my faceoff and heckling New Yorkers at the Food Truck Showdown. Can’t wait to get my hands on several cupcakes, lobster rolls, and of course a Bon Me rice bowl! If I survive, I will be preparing pulled pork in the slow cooker for Sunday Funday festivities. Sunday tradition in the apartment will continue, this time while rooting for the Pats, we will be making making pulled pork nachos!
