It’s a busy week for professional events in Boston. On Tuesday, there’s the MassChallenge Award Ceremony wherein the remaining 26 teams will compete for lots of monies. (Fun Fact: Orlando Jones, of 7UP commercial fame is acting as the Master of Ceremonies –bringing the early 00’s back, folks). And there’s Xconomy’s Future of Big Data Forum on Wednesday at the Fidelity Center for Applied Technology in the Seaport District.
But probably loudest of all this week is MITX’s FutureM – a leading marketing and technology conference. Of all the events spread across three venues (NERD Center, Fidelity Center for Applied Technology and Hynes Convention Center), I have a theory for which will be the most fun. The Shark Tank.
Headed up by some of Boston’s leading investors, Nicole Stata, Dave Balter, Fred Destin, Lucy McQuilkin, Mike Troiano, Joe Caruso, Katie Rae, Dharmesh Shah and with Mass Challenge’s Karl Buttner moderating, The Shark Tank will award $100,000 to one of six competing Boston-area companies.
Why will it be fun?
First, it’s a super fun group. While they are some of Boston’s heaviest hitters, they aren’t stuffy like you might expect. They enjoy a good laugh, an off-color joke and a fair amount of competition.
There’s a ton of adrenaline. $100,000? That’s some real money. It’s not your average Thursday afternoon giveaway. These teams beat out 70 other teams to be there and you can bet they are out for blood – hey, nice shark pun, amiright?
Take a peek at who’s presenting:
- arcbazar – Crowdsourcing platform for architectural design services
- CoachUp – Connects athletes with private coaches
- Intrepid Pursuits / Timbre – App to connect music lovers with local musicians
- Jebbit – Targeted ad platform, currently available for college students
- NBD Nanotechnologies Inc – Water collection & harvesting
- Sidewalk – Analyzes digital footprints of SMBs
Who can you get in on the action and be there in person as $100,000 is doled out? Sign up for FutureM or head to the after party – Shark Filet Show at Firebrand Saints on Oct 25th, right after the big Shark Tank Live! event.
See you there, kiddos.
