Faneuil Hall’s annual tree lighting ceremony is getting a major overhaul this year! Stages will be set up around the Market Place which will include live performances from the Boston Ballet, a performance by the “Legends of Boston Comedy”, and the Boston Pops. For the dudes, Jerod Mayo will be signing autographs. The Grinch will also make an appearance, and read stories to children…I’m assuming this is after the Whos sing to him… who would want a Grinch with a heart 3 sizes too small reading to children??… I also noticed on the stage map that there will be a station for a Balloonist/Face Painter. I may get a Rudolph Nose or Bumble Face painted on me.
The highlight of the overhaul will be Blink! featuring music of the Pops. The installation is comprised of over 350,000 LED lights covering the tree and surrounding Marketplace.
PingUp will also be launched this weekend, a mobile concierge program that allows spectators to text questions regarding the show, history of the area, or make dinner reservations.
Use the app to help you find what local restaurants in the area will be having food and drink specials. For starters, Mija Cantina will be having $5 Holiday Margaritas all day long, as well as hosting the “Conscious Reggae Band”. Anthem Kitchen + Bar will be mixing up some delicious winter drinks such as Hot Toddies and Mulled Hot Cider.
If you miss the launch this weekend, the state of the art light show extravaganza will run for the next 6 weeks.
