“Who are… three people who have never been in my kitchen?”
There’s some top-notch bar trivia happening Thursday night. It’s for a good cause, and I know you’ll do better than Cliff Clavin.
You and a group of friends, hand-picked for their command of various topics of trivial importance; competing under a team name that is either a) a “clever” pun, b) mildly inappropriate, c) an obscure pop culture reference, or d) all of the above; sharing a mound of nachos and knocking back your favorite beer (responsibly, of course). How could this situation get any better?, you might wonder. How about doing it all for a great Boston cause?
Youth Enrichment Services (YES), founded in 1968, serves youth ages 7-18 living in low-income households in and around Boston with limited access to outdoor activities. Their signature programs – Operation SnowSports, Outdoor Adventure, and the YES Academy, provide these Beantown kids and teens with year-round “outdoor, sports-based, and leadership development programs.” Their site provides valuable background info. You can support the efforts of this organization by attending their Trivia Night event – this Thursday, February 28, 7 p.m. at the Baseball Tavern on Boylston Street.
100% of the proceeds from this event go towards YES and their programs for Boston youth. Your ticket guarantees you free appetizers, a spot in the trivia competition, and a chance to win some great prizes. Additionally, every participating trivia buff will be entered in a raffle to win a day trip with Boston Ski and Sports Club.
To purchase your ticket now, head over here. If you’re not the planning type, tickets may also be purchased at the door (subject to availability) for a slightly higher price.
Gather your best trivia team of up to eight members and head over to 1720 Boylston Street. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the games begin at 7:30 (don’t worry, late-arriving team members will be granted entry). An added bonus: I hear it’s Baseball Tavern’s 50th anniversary and that they’re celebrating with some excellent drink specials! And, as if you needed more incentive, you’ll be competing against two We Love Beantown writers: our very own Dave Levy, as well as yours truly. I won’t speak for Dave, but my team promises to bring the intellectual heat (we’ll be the team named after a Seinfeld reference). So, stop by this Thursday to have a few drinks and show off your mighty command of informational minutia, all while supporting a great Boston organization.
