We Love (Boylston) Weekends

A #BackToBackBay edition of our author’s weekend picks…

CaseyCinco de Mayo is a little over a week away. And it’s almost warm enough to drink outside again. So clearly some practice with outdoor margaritas is in order this weekend. If people really wanted to get crazy, we could do some sort of Margarita Mile between Cactus Club and The Rattlesnake. All in favor?

Alex D.: Yesterday I went shopping with my best friend Amanda around Boylston and Newbury. Can’t believe how suddenly it is gorgeous out and everything is in bloom, takes me by surprise every year! We swung by Rattlesnake for a tasty dinner on their roof-deck. I’m not sure when, and it may or may not have been recently, but they have changed their menu! The food was more fantastic than I remembered. Both the Spicy Fish Tacos I had and the Chicken Tacos Amanda feasted on were super flavorful. Saturday, I will be a fun day of outside activities. I just love activities. Taking a walk around the Esplanade will start the day, followed by lunch at either the Bay Bay Social Club or Parish Cafe. Saturday night will be spent slipping on some mug-a-ritas at the Pour House. Sunday… confession… usually I have been to at least 5 games by this time in the season… I have not been to any this year! So maybe Sunday afternoon you will find me sitting in seats hopefully with this view.

Dave: I’ve got a busy weekend around softball, a long run and potential baseball with the family. Saturday evening looks to be a solid night for me to get back to Back Bay. Given the plans of the weekend, I’d probably head to McGreevy’s before Fenway on Sunday for a Bud heavy and some pretzels.

Natty: This Sunday, I have to fly out bright and early to Orlando for work–awwwww maaaaannnn–so I’ll be sure to make Friday and Saturday count. Tonight, JJ Grey & Mofro are going to be rocking the Paradise. Everyone should go. Seriously. Everyone. That means you, DL. I’ll wake up early Saturday morning, and the gal and I will hit the gym and then take a walk around the Reservoir in the bright April sunshine. After exercise, we’ll completely negate our workouts with beers and lunch at the Parish Café. It’ll be an early morning at Logan on Sunday, but if I were going to be totally irresponsible on Saturday night, I’d head to John Brown’s Body at the Paradise for a killer horn section.

Jarret: Saturday will be spent with an old-fashioned spring stroll down Boylston Street. Chicago has Michigan Avenue and New York has Fifth, but Boston has Boylston. The mix of people-watching is tremendous as students stumble out of Whiskey’s and Pour House at 2 p.m. blinking in the sunlight, tourists quack, hoodies skateboard in front of the library. Them That Got cross the street from the Mandarin Hotel to the Apple Store, nary blinking an eye to oncoming traffic. I think I’ll make my first trip to Sugar Heaven and make a sweet end to a bitter week.
