Mondays get overhyped. I spend so much time thinking about avoiding the “case of the Mondays” that I actually end up burying my post-weekend angst, finding it resurfaces Tuesday mornings. In my time of need, I turn to Elvis Costello. His “Welcome to the Working Week,” the first track of the absolutely classic album My Aim is True, gets me picked up and ready to go in a mere 83 seconds.
Even beyond a Tuesday Morning Motive for listening, consider the songwriting: Elvis packs in two and a half verses, two catchy choruses, a bridge, and a coda– and still has six seconds at the end hold a ringing guitar chord and close with a drum hit.
I feel like a juggler runnin’ out of hands.
