Summer is officially here, and we’re going to celebrate like we do every weekend. Here’s where to find your authors around town in the first days after the solstice.
Drea: Freshly back from Hawaii, and now wedded, I’m happy to jump back into a Boston weekend! Tonight, I’m celebrating my sister’s birthday at Belly Wine Bar before heading to see Dawes and Shovels and Rope at Royale. Tomorrow, after a nice morning run, will be a BBQ that’s what mid-westerner’s call them at my CEO’s in Weston. Sunday, I’ll probably hit SOWA, take care of some settling-in errands, and do a little relaxing.
Andrew: Just stepping off a plane from Asheville, but I can’t miss the LA rock band Dawes at the Royale tonight. These guys have progressed so much over the past few years, it’s great to see them get a well deserved headlining slot at a big time club. Saturday is all business, exercising away the BBQ and craft beer consumed over a week long period and then it’s game time. Bruins at one of these outdoor bars with TVs. Sunday the Lord said should be a day of rest and I conquer.
Sarah: This weekend is jam packed with my two favorite things: food and running. Saturday I’ll be heading to City Hall Plaza for the Phantom Gourmet BBQ Beach Party. $10 at the door will get you access to all the BBQ, beer, and calories your stomach and wallet can handle. Saturday night the festivities will continue with another Bruins game. I can’t get too rowdy, because Sunday morning I’ll be waking up early to run the BAA 10k, which starts at Boston Common and runs up Comm. Ave. to BU and back. As the first BAA event in the city since the Boston Marathon, it’s looking like the event is going to be a powerful tribute to our city and our race. Goal for the race: beat last year’s time and soak up the Boston love.
Dave: My Friday is so exciting, that I’m a T short of a full GTL (I’d never T). If I have the energy after all of that, I may field trip over the river to watch a friend play with his band at Cantab Lounge. On Saturday, after the Marblehead Farmer’s Market, I’m going to hang on the north shore to watch some hockey and grill outside in the hot weather. Finally, I’ll join in that BAA 10k on Sunday morning before a full day of tech week rehearsals – opening night is just six days away.
Alex: Friday night will entail a casual night of nothing. Saturday I will also be checking out the Phantom Gourmet BBQ Beach Party at City Hall. Every year I miss it, can’t wait to finally try some smokey goodness right off the spit. Sunday I might swing over to China Town for the China Town Main Streets Festival. After all that rain these past couple weeks, I excited to spend some quality time with Boston outside!
Jarret: Tomorrow is Athletic Saturday (yeah, let’s make that a thing). I’m riding the CapeFLYER to Hyannis, then biking 50 miles around the elbow to Provincetown. Then I’m taking the ferry back to downtown Boston. It’s a lot for one day. Maybe there’ll be beaches involved. Maybe there’ll be some memorialization of that great Italian-American Guglielmo Marconi and his transatlantic wireless station in South Wellfleet. I’m with Andrew: Sunday is a day of rest.
