Boston Marathon 2013

Picking the “Photo of the Week” is not generally a difficult task, but it was certainly a bit more difficult than usual this week. That said, I’m quite proud to use our very own Alex Dupnik’s photo, since it was used in a national piece for ABC World News last night. This is exactly what the Boston Marathon will continue to look like. And yes, guy in the Giants hat, we forgive you because you prove the race is for all of us, not just Bostonians.

For Boston.

Every week we select a photo from our We Love Beantown Flickr pool to highlight as the pic of the week – join and submit your favorites!

Ah, the iconic Citgo sign in Kenmore Square. My parents tell me that as a child, it’s the reason I learned both the color red and the shape of a triangle. Because of its visibility from much of the city, I would shout “red triangle!” while being driven around as a kid. But like most Bostonians, I never knew the origins of one of our most well known landmarks.

Now that’s a sunset.

I think that could rival the elusive green flash, don’t you? I’ve been running around the Chestnut Hill reservoir for over 10 years now and I haven’t seen one that cool before. Well done, Natty.

Which got me thinking that there’s actually a bunch of places in Boston where you’ll get to see a wicked amazing sunset. There’s the obvious, tourist-favorite Top of the Hub, the BU bridge, the top of the Summit Ave hill in Brighton (also good for sunrises for you November Project enthusiasts), roof decks in the North End or Charlestown, and of course, Fenway Park.

You may not get to see the sun hit the water but you’re guaranteed to see some amazing colors splashed across the sky and some amazing Boston skyline views.

Spring has sprung, and summer’s almost here, so get out there and post your sunset photos to We Love Beantown’s Flickr!

So what’s cooler than some great live jazz? How about some great live jazz out on Newbury Street? Aside from catching a group out on the street, considering how unlikely that might be, we’ve got some great options here in Boston. One of my personal favorites is The Beehive, located in the South End. It features killer live jazz seven nights a week, an outstanding menu, and a full bar with specialty cocktails. Do yourself a favor and check it out for a great night out.

Green Beer

Hooray Beer!

Too soon after St. Patty’s weekend? Nah. Technically it’s spring now. And although its 20 degrees out and you may still be hungover from Sunday, it’s time to buck up and start training. No, not for the Boston Marathon in April – although Marathon Monday is kind of your next opportunity for citywide “merriment” – but for spring and summer festivities in Boston.

The world of outdoor dining will be back. Patios will open. Picnics will be had. We will be able to extricate ourselves from those windowless dive bars we spend our winters in.

Speaking of dive bars, which of the Shite Sixteen did you have green beer at this past weekend? We know you celebrated the luck o’ the Irish. Now post yer photos to the We Love Beantown Flickr page!
